Religious Education @ Holden Lane Academy

Religious education is a crucial part of education for pupils as it opens their minds to various beliefs and mindsets that different people and cultures have around the world.

Learning and understanding of different religions can help pupils to find purpose within their own lives, and offers the opportunity to explore different religions and find meaning in things that they may not have previously encountered.

Through Religious Education, pupils at Holden Lane Academy will continue to deepen their understanding and respect for the various ways in which people from different cultural backgrounds, worship their gods or deities.

Learning in Action:

RE Documents

Withdrawal from RE lessons:

In the UK, parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE on the grounds that they wish to provide their own RE. This provision will be the parents’ responsibility. This right of withdrawal exists for all pupils in all types of school, including schools with and without a religious designation. Parents also have the right to withdraw their child from part of RE, and can do so without giving any explanation

If you would like to withdraw your child from RE lessons, please contact Miss Thomas, Principal, via the school office on 01782 234890 or holdenlane@holdenlaneacademy.co.uk

Pupil Voice:

Year 1
We have been learning about belonging and I belong to the class of Year 1 at Holden Lane Academy.  I also belong to a Mosque.
Year 2
We have been learning about Christians and they have words that are important to them like faith, hope, joy and peace.
Year 3
Jewish people celebrate Passover.  They celebrate it by eating different foods such as Maror, Chazeret (Bitter Herbs), Beitzah (Egg) and Zeroah (Shank Bone).
Year 4
We have learnt that water is cleansing to Christians because they use it to baptise Christians. They get baptised in the church.  Some people get baptised in the River Jordan in Israel.
Year 5
I have enjoyed learning about IslamI like that Zakat is meaningful to Muslims as they believe it is important to give to charity because some people don’t have as much as others and they want everyone to be equal.”
Year 6
We have learnt about humanist principles.  Humanists are people who don’t believe in a god. They have four rules: being honest, using your mind, telling the truth and to do to others what you would want done to you.

Holden Lane is a small school with a big heart.
