Physical Education @ Holden Lane Academy

Holden Lane Academy believes that PE, physical activity & school sport (PESSPA) is a vital part of school life and ultimately our children’s future well-being.

It is therefore our intent to provide an inclusive, broad and balanced PE curriculum that ensures ALL children will benefit, whether through enhancing existing skills, learning new skills or being introduced to new sports, clubs, teams and organisations.

It is our intent to ensure children understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and to equip them with the tools to do so through health and well-being education.

Children must understand how to take care of themselves both physically and mentally in order to be successful as adults.

Nursery
In PE we like to move our bodies and exercise.  I like to jump, run and play games.
Reception
In PE, we use our bodies to go so fast and exercise.  We need to do this to keep our bodies strong.
Year 1
We perform different movements like side stepping and skipping.  We discuss rules and we can practise our skills to be a footballer when we are older.”
Year 2
We learn PE so we can be healthy and strong when we are older.  The skills I have learnt are hopping, skipping, jumping and dance.
Year 3
We perform movements which help our bodies grow and it is very fun.  We took part in Outdoor and Adventure playing team games and taking on challenges.  It helps me to improve.
Year 4
PE is fun and it keeps us healthy but also energetic. We exercise so that we can be better at sports. In Gymnastics we learnt about shapes and then created these shapes with our bodies.  We learnt how to do the bridge, tuck, star and straddle positions.
Year 5
I enjoy PE because it helps us socialise with our friends It also helps us to stay fit.  PE gives us opportunities to take part in competitive sports such as football or races in sports dayWe also develop skills which could help us to travel the world as a professional player or coach when we grow up.
Year 6
PE keeps us fit by performing exerciseI enjoy PE because it is fun and helps us to know when to attack in a game.  Lessons help us to learn how to do things first and then we practise the skills.  PE provides us with opportunities to work as a coach or fitness instructorIt could also lead to a job as a professional footballer or athlete at the Olympics.
